Discovery: Quick guide to the medical aid plans

The range of Discovery medical aid plans are suited to every health need and pocket. Their entry level plans are the Keycare plans, which have premiums adjusted for your level of income – the less you earn the less you pay per month. See below for more information on this. The highest-level plan is the Executive plan.

Executive Comprehensive plan

The Executive Plan offers you the most extensive cover for in-hospital and day-to-day benefits with extended chronic medicine cover and an unlimited Above Threshold Benefit.

There is a savings account, a self payment gap before the unlimited Above Threshold benefit kicks in. We have a more detailed explanation of the Discovery Comprehensive plans here.

Comprehensive plans

Comprehensive cover for in-hospital and day-to-day cover with extended chronic medicine cover and an unlimited Above Threshold Benefit. There are (cheaper) option plans that limit a member to certain network hospitals.

Saver series

Includes in-hospital cover, essential chronic medicine cover and day-to-day benefits through a Medical Savings Account. Once your medical savings run out, you are liable to pay for most day-to-day costs out of pocket. There are (cheaper) option plans that limit a member to certain network hospitals. All saver plans offer extensive day-to-day maternity cover.

Core series

A value-for-money hospital plan that provides unlimited private hospital cover and essential cover for chronic medicine with no day-to-day cover.

Priority plans

These plans are also considered comprehensive since they have a savings account, a self-payment gap and a limited Above Threshold Benefit. Plans include in-hospital cover, essential chronic medicine cover and day-to-day benefits with a limited Above Threshold Benefit. Smart plans

The most cost-effective in-hospital cover, essential chronic medicine cover plus limited day-to-day cover if you’re willing to use providers in a specified network.

Keycare plans

Affordable medical cover if you’re willing to use providers in a specified network for both in-hospital and out-of-hospital treatment.
