Dr Daniel Rens qualified in 1991 with an MBChB degree from the University of Pretoria and after completing his Internship year at I Military Hospital, worked as a General Practitioner initially in Pretoria and thereafter in Canada. He returned to SA in 1994 as a Medical Officer, Internal Medicine Dept, Pretoria Academic Hospital and was accepted as a registrar in 1995. He completed specialization in Internal Medicine in 1999 and thereafter accepted a specialist post at the Dept of Medical Oncology, to continue with subspecialisation in Medical Oncology. He was registered as a Medical Oncologist at the HPCSA in 2002. In 2009 he also successfully completed the European Oncology (ESMO) examination in Berlin. He has an interest and love for nature and also holds a BSc degree and an Honours degree in Zoology, previously aspiring to follow a career in Nature Conservation.

He joined the ABJ Inc. Oncology Group Practice in 2003 as a partner and director, and is based at Vereeniging MediClinic. He has been accepted as a full member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) and is also a full member of the South African Society of Medical Oncology (SASMO).

In his spare time he plays golf, enjoys mountain biking, scuba dives, and strives to improve on his guitar playing skills.
