More about Dr Karlien du Plessis
Dr Karlien du Plessis matriculated in 1989 from Kuswag High School in Amanzimtoti. She then went on to complete her medical degree in 1995 from University of Pretoria. She did her internship at Pretoria Academic Hospital.
From 1996 – 2003 she worked as a locum at various practices in the Pretoria area. She was also involved in examining sexually abused children as part of a multi-disciplinary team at the RP clinic. She was the national medical representative for SAPSAC, a society educating professionals in the field of child abuse. She also did work for the Department of Justice with regards to educating prosecutors in the legal implications of medical findings in child abuse.
In 2002 she commenced practising at the oncology practice of Dr Alberts Partners Incorporated in Vereeniging. In this time she completed her Diploma in Palliative Care from UCT. She is actively involved in patient care in the unit as part of the multi-disciplinary team that aims to holistically look after every patient.
She is married to Pieter and has 3 children, Simone, Pieter and Daniel. She also runs, swims, and plays the piano.
